Episode 2: Brian's Backstage Blog

Posted at 09:40 04 February, 2009

Never wear a suit in August. The personalities of the design troupe turned a hot day in Ottawa into a fever pitch! Of course some, such as the beautiful star Elisha Cuthbert, didn’t seem affected by the heat. Elisha has a definite sense of style, knows what she likes and what works for her. This is definitely a stunning woman that doesn’t need a stylist to tell her what to wear. And for the designers she represents a huge opportunity. One great shot of Elisha wearing your dress can speak dollars for future collections.

I was in shock at what some of the designers chose for their fabrics especially Adejoke and Brandon…polyester! Jeff picked up grey silk charmeuse and Margarita chose a woven stretch, which is a nightmare to sew. Sunny picked a bad blue that looked cheap, however with a little design detail and good execution he could pull it off.

I loved what Genevieve did with her dress. It was refined with an innovative shape. Kim understood that over-design had hurt her in the first challenge and came through with a great dress. Adejoke needed to listen to the client. I was in shock over the silver and shingle work on the top. Jeff ended up working so hard on the make of the dress he forgot about the design. Brandon, Brandon, Brandon, great idea….but! A dress like that would take hours and hours of fitting and sewing, not to mention the ruffles around the butt and the tractor tire going up the torso. At one point I thought the dress was missing the bottom half.

I was dying inside when I saw Margarita try to work with her fabric. I love her spirit and her drive to make it big time…and she can talk fashion. I know that she will make it on her own as she stood out for me from the very beginning. Her design sense was there, but unfortunately the execution was not. Jason came out of left field with his design. I’m still in shock as to where that dress suddenly came from! Congrats to you Jason. Margarita, sorry to see you leave. The next challenge will be sure to separate, and as Iman says, we’ll see who measures up.

fabric knowledge said: did you know that no polyester was used in Adejoke's outfit. The top was silk and the bottom was raw silk with metallic fibres weaved in. Does Brian even help the designers? If he did he would at least know what materials they are using. The metallic fibres on the runway reflected extremely with the intense lighting. if her outfit was actually shown in the workroom during the episode we would all know it's true colour. Elisha doesn't know what she wants.

Sew Magic said: what is going on this season? I am shocked with the language.I thought Brian was a nice, clean cut young man?I couldn't believe my ears when he said "Rise like my p***s", to Christie. I hope this was an isolated incident, and I can continue to enjoy the rest of season 2 without having to worry that my kids are in the room.

I'm loving this season, although two of my favourites have already left.

<: Paul said: Canada should be ashamed of the designers on this show. Kim has a thing going with tails hanging of of almost everything she makes. The winning dress for Winners made by Jessica would fit hardly anyone because of the material she used it shows every lupm and bump on even a slim persons body. The only true designer on that show is Sunny who wins the challenge almost every week - no surprise. There should have been 3 people kicked of this week not just one.

larsfurball said: I don't know what agenda is being followed but the return of eliminated contestants followed by the tie removes any illusion that there is a contest involved. "It's your best work yet...you don't measure up." This is the first time I would put oxymoron and Iman in the same thought but that's where the producers have taken us.
